New rat species found on Philippines mountain , Yahoonews
MANILA (AFP) - - A new species of rat has been found on a mountain in the southern Philippines, the environment department said on Wednesday.
The Hamiguitan batomys, or hairy-tailed rat, is a yellow-brown rodent with a long furry tail.
Weighing about 175 grams (6.2 ounces), it lives 950 metres (3,117 feet) above sea level in the dwarf mossy forests of Mount Hamiguitan on Mindanao island.
It was discovered in a joint US-Filipino expedition in 2006 that involved experts from the Chicago-based Field Museum of Natural History, the Filipino government agency said in a statement.
The Hamiguitan batomys is related to several other species found in central Mindanao, neighbouring Dinagat island and the main Philippine island of Luzon.
But its natural habitat is an area of less than 10 square kilometres (3,861 square miles), the agency said.
Lawrence Heaney, curator of mammals at the Chicago museum, said: "The unusual geological history of eastern Mindanao leads us to predict that additional species currently unknown to anyone except local residents are likely to live there."
He said the team would continue to "find, formally describe and learn about the habitat needs of these species before logging, mining, or other human activities reduce their chances for survival".
Heaney said the Philippines "has one of the largest numbers of unique species of mammals of any place in the world. Over 125 mammal species live only in the Philippines."
Danilo Balete, the Filipino leader of the expedition, said the Hamiguitan batomys "is the first mammal to be described from eastern Mindanao, and is the first mammal that is thought to live only in that area."
This, he said, leads him to suspect that the mountain is "a biologically unique part of the Philippines".

SHANGHAI (AFP) - - A married Chinese tycoon who could no longer afford to support his five mistresses during the economic slowdown held a contest to decide which one to keep, local media reported Tuesday.
The contest took a tragic turn when one of the mistresses, who was eliminated based on her looks, drove her former lover and the four other women off a mountain road in an apparent fit of anger, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The driver died in the December 6 crash while the man and four other women were hospitalised, the report said.
Initially, it was thought to be an accident, but then details of the bizarre contest emerged in a letter left by the dead woman, a 29-year-old former waitress surnamed Yu, the newspaper said.
The woman met the entrepreneur, surnamed Fan, at the restaurant where she worked in the coastal city of Qingdao in 2000 and became his lover, the report said.
Fan later introduced her to the four other mistresses -- two of his employees and two former clients -- with all given a 5,000-yuan (733-dollar) monthly allowance and rent-free apartment, the report said.
However, when Fan's business ran into tough times, he decided to lay off all but one woman, the report said.
Fan hired an instructor from a modelling agency to judge a private contest he held at a hotel in May, but he did not tell the women about his intentions.
Yu was eliminated in the first-round beauty competition and a woman surnamed Liu eventually won after dominating the drinking round, the report said.
When Fan told Yu she was dismissed and that he was selling her apartment, she decided to exact revenge during a group outing.
After the accident Fan paid Yu's parents 580,000 yuan as compensation for her death. His wife divorced him after learning of his affairs, the report said, adding the other four mistresses also
left him.
The tale was reported in other Chinese media, but none gave further details about Fan, such as his age or profession.

Last Night~~
Last night i helped my friend to do his fyp. The payment for helping him up is McD ooo... hahaha.. Last night punya waste was not that much like previously.. so, we finished up quite fast taking the sample. The owner of the cafeteria Mr. S who sent the waste asked us what is the significant of this study... what good does it bring to our study.. The outcome of the study itself. Well, the dialog was more or less like this :
Old Man: After his worker put down all the waste on the plastic sheet we use to accumulate the waste... "what is the significant of your study?
Bob: collection data utk waste kat UNIMAS tok (forgot his other lines.. but his ans is correct lor..)
Old man: i understand.. but what is the thing you want to achieve? its a dirty job and a useless thing to do...Beside this thing does not highly paid.
Bob: Yalah Pakcik.. Atas sebab blajar tok.. we've too do it. but as human waste, the biological component could be done as fertlizer later on. (menjwb utk mensodapkan hati pakcik ya.. me pulak dalam hati "woi! when we work, this thing is not done by us.. we only take the data lor. It is a high payment job bcoz its not a popular job and hard to find expertise on this..(dirty job ada org mok buat ka and jadikan sebagai kerjaya?) )
Old Man: I tok kesian nangga you all doing this thing. One thing i want to say if you guys not afraid, this place ada banyak jin...

Moral of the story:
Don't judge the thing that people do is useless... All of us came from moderate income family.. i was particularly not borned like what my family is today. Bersyukur kepada Allah atas rezekinya. Amin.. My other friends were also not from rich family. All of us dah merasa kesusahan hidup. Surviving each and every month. when i was small, sometimes we ate only rice with soya sauce.. Because of this, i don't mind do dirty job like this. lepas juak dinner nak? hehehe.. Alhamdulillah.. What i want to emphasise here is that we have to be thankfull to Allah in anything that happen to us. There's always a reason why Allah put us in that way. Allah Maha dalam segalanya.. kan..>?
From this study, the thing that my friend achieve will show the total out of forecasted waste by UNIMAS. This is to prevent the dump area from being overload... a small thing which contribute to the ease of people around it.. since it is a seldom thing people want to get involve with, it is a high payment job.. only people don't know...
Jadi jgn la pandang serong dgn org yang mengumpul sampah or the people yang tgh scavenging kat tong2 sampah.. tanpa mereka, sampah sarap banyak bertaburan di dunia ini... panjang lagi kalau mok dicerita.. pandai2 la anda fikir sendiri.. huhuhu~
Valentine Day!
Wishing everyone a belated happy valentine day! (i can't get thru the wIfi here in campus.. sorry (@;@)
Well during the valentine's night. I was out in kuching.. not with anyone.. but my friends here in campus. That night, me, Reagan and bob went out to have our late night supper.. bored with noni.. jnj...and warung we agreed to go out to kuching. well unplanned actually since my friends wants to try out things at benteng.. so said by bob ( nasik ayam salad nya sodap).
well that night ada benda berlaku~~
Reagan nervously bought and gave flower+chclate to S.. nearly to 12 at that time...its was a surprise and congrats to him for succeeding. I want to get a flower for someone.. yet i don't have the guts to wake ppl up at 12 and i believe she's going out with her bf kot.. anyway.. sad things happen aight.. part lawak nya.. berpeluh pok till have butterfly in the stomach. luckily he didn't throw up. god bless him.. hahaha..
We all went to benteng for our supper (didn't eat since morning arr).. bob saw flasher! ahahaha.. accidently of course. he was waiting for his food when the girl fixed up her bra and accidently flash her tits. he goes like.. "wow!" an event yet meaningfull to him that day.. hahahaha..
finishing our supper, i had a headache.. so we decided to go back to UNIMAS. i tooked a nap in the car while reagan was driving. He took the long way back! going thru Batu 7. aiyak... air kaeon pun salah beli.. komene..
sampai kat kolej.. i was fine.. got a good sleep kot inside the car. we chat until 5 and sleep lor.. a tiring but enjoyable day of valentine i guess.. hehehehe...

Final Year Projects by UNIMAS Students!
well.. i can't post any pictures right now coz somehow my hp's cable rosak and got no time to update the blog. I'm staying in UNIMAS for nearly 2 weeks now. the internet there sux... juz got back home and i can feel the refreshing needs of internet connection at my home. bless strymx for that.. hehehe.. well.. for this past one week, i help my friend doing his fyp. 3 of them to be precise... huhu..
keroro doing his fyp on thermal comfort. we were doing the wiring of his temperature device in a house located at Semariang Baru. Two houses before rejected our proposition to do research for thermal comfort at their house. luckily the third house agreed that we use his house for the research. The house is actually rented by students from Twin Tech kch. we did the wiring first before installing the data logger. all this was done on Sunday. from 2 till 5.. well.. i got KFC for it.. hehehehhe...
Next FYP is done by bob. He's doing solid waste from cafeteria in UNIMAs. he's taking roughly 10kg samples from the cafeteria. Reagan, myself and also keon helped him to mix up the waste and data input. The steps were first to get the solid waste from the cafeteria. After colllecting in one place, we divide the waste into 4. one quarter is choosen and the quartered waste was divided according to type of waste which are plastic, paper, organic waste and can. each was weighted. i got free dinner for that.. hehehehe..
the last fyp that i'm helping is Wazizi a.k.a. jiji.. he's doing clay stabilization. The tiring job is preparing the sample of clay. we had to crushed the clay and do sieving to get the fine grain. Since clay has high moisture content because of the raining season which had just ended, it took us some time to properly crushed the clay into fine grain before seiving it.

Hola! Sorry for not blogging for a long time.. i was particularly busy with my PTA and assignment in kampus.. and also coz i injured my hand during playing futsal.. cannot type as usual.. and can't drive without exerting painfulllllllnesss... huhuhu..
Last Friday, we went to my friend's performance at UNIMAS experimental studio. His band is named Polar. Consists of Saif from 7 Days After, guitar vocal... jijie the drummer.. Apiq the bassist and lastly Ahim playing the synth... if anyone wonder what is synth.. see the vids at .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqAH0tm_6E4 . The band played their own songs and the band is lead by Saif.
